How promising is the Nissan Sunny 2012 – car review

There are a few cars which have been driven in UAE for so long that they have become a part of this country’s history. These cars have played their part in the growth and prosperity of UAE. Such cars always find a special place in the hearts of millions of people all across the nation.

One of these cars is the Nissan Sunny. Nissan has been providing this reliable family car to UAE for over two decades now. The durable and consistent cost efficient performance of Sunny for such a long time has made it one of the most successful sedans in UAE. It is because of such traits that Nissan Sunny has become an important part of thousands of families for generations.

With a view to carry forward this heritage, Nissan has launched Sunny 2012 here in UAE. With the same old “low-cost-durability” DNA in its genes, the new Nissan Sunny 2012 displays new styling in a modern design.  It is built to take you around the city comfortably, merge into your daily travel routine and do all this without cutting a hole in your wallet. With the Nissan Sunny Classic catering to the fleet sales requirements of UAE, Nissan aims at individual sales with this model.

The secret behind Nissan Sunny’s high fuel efficiency lies under its hood, the 1.6L, 4 cylinder petrol engine. This engine is married to a 4-speed automatic transmission. A 5-speed manual transmission is also available for people who desire full control. This machine delivers 105HP at 6,000 RPM. Nissan has integrated the CVTC (Continuous Valve Timing Control) technology in Sunny 2012. With the help of CVTC, the engine automatically alternates intake and torque efficiency at different speeds and the result is that Sunny reacts better than it ever did before. Moreover it also helps by reducing gas emission and enhancing the fuel economy. Suspension is built with front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link beam to provide optimum control and drive stability all levels.

The body of Nissan Sunny bears a simple design with smooth lines which merge with its rounded shape. Sleek CSR halogen headlamps and a well designed set of fog lamps give a fresh frontal look. The grille is finished with thin chrome bars on the top and bottom. The rear end is well designed with triangular tail lights. This sedan sits on 14” steel wheels (15” alloy wheels are available in its high-end SE variant). Sunny beautifully reflects a traditional feel, styled in a contemporary design.

On the interiors, Sunny is made to feel comfortable. The instrument cluster is uncomplicated and can be easily operated by anyone. The entire styling is straightforward and simple. Seats are comfortable and finished in cloth but Sunny compromises on space providing minimal legroom for the rear passengers. The basic model includes features like power windows for front doors, central locking system, dual SRS airbag for driver and fully automated air conditioning system. The full options SE is packed with Keyless entry system, power windows on all doors with power residual function, a radio/CD/MP3 player with AUX jack,  a dual height adjustment system, rear seats armrest and map lights with overhead sunglasses storage. SE variant also gets braking assist and ABS with EBD as option and SRS airbags for front passenger and driver as standard.

So as a package, Nissan Sunny is a vehicle which is built for convenience with an affordable price tag. It is not a fancy or fast vehicle but a cost efficient and economical solution for all your travelling expense. However, despite its attractive price tag, competitors like Corolla and Lancer offering many more features both on interiors and exteriors, Sunny fails to compete.
