The Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai, has been blowing some hot steam in recent times. Their latest models are mesmerizingly designed with impressive engines and interior trims that surpass one’s expectation. This phase is truly the best we have seen from Hyundai yet. Covering an extensive segment of vehicles in UAE, Hyundai recently launched its high performing first ever rear-wheel drive sports car, welcome Genesis Coupe.

When Hyundai calls Genesis Coupe a sports car, they mean it. Being the first rear wheel driven coupe from Hyundai in UAE, Genesis is a surprisingly fabulous package. The exterior shape and styling of this coupe is compact, sporty and aggressive. Sharp cuts and angular curves are clearly noticeable and project a very attractive stance. The HID headlamps and tail-lamps follow Hyundai’s family design but are revamped with shaper edges to fit into the sporty personality. The rear spoiler is sleek and adds to the already stunning rear profile. 18” five-spoke aluminium alloy wheels come standard and broader 19” V spoke alloy wheels are available as an option. Genesis Coupe has the razor-sharp look which is much loved in UAE, the smallest components right from the fog lamp cluster on the front bumper to the angular dual exhaust pipes are amazingly designed. Hyundai continues to set new milestones as far as looks are concerned.

When it’s a sports vehicle, the most important element is handling and performance and the Genesis coupe does not let you down. Hyundai’s 3.8L V6 Lambda engines is specially tweaked with RS (Rear-drive Sport) for this coupe. Generating 303PS at 6,300RPM, you cannot deny that the figures are truly impressive. An alternate to this beasty engine is a 2.0L 4-cylinder Turbo engine which delivers 210PS at 6000RPM. With a choice of a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission on a rear wheel drive, the power and performance of these engines are fully realized. Genesis handles amazingly well on corners, thanks to the aerodynamics of short overhangs and low ground clearance. Further, this coupe is held by Multi-link McPherson strut on the front and Multi-link rear suspension with a front/rear distribution of 55/45 percent. So as a performer, Genesis Coupe falls in the big league with swift handling and impressive display of power.

Coming to the interior trim, I have to say it is tastefully done. Whether it’s the bucket seats which hold you in place when this monster takes off or the fine leather craftsmanship effortlessly blending with the sporty layout of the dashboard, Genesis Coupe has a comfortable and classy cabin. Leg and head room on the rear seats are generous for a coupe. The central console lines in a simple straight layout with a LED screen providing audio, climate and other information. The interiors would look much classier if the central console was equipped with a LCD touch-screen and had a fancier design and layout. Never the less, the instrument cluster gives the feel of a sports car with a dual-cylinder design displaying speedometer and tachometer. The standard in-car entertainment comprise of AM/FM, MP3 and CD playback facility, USB and Aux terminal with six speakers, for music lovers a premium sound system by Infinity comprising of a 305-watt amplifier with eight high quality speakers is available as an option. Attention to detail is noticed as Genesis includes chrome coated brake and acceleration pedals and an elegant tiny compartment acting as a smart key holder. Other features include Keyless Entry System, Parking sensors and Automatic A/C. The interior trim is available in four options namely black leather, black leather with red cloth, brown leather and black cloth.

For the safety of passengers onboard, Genesis is equipped with six airbags and active headrests. Various crushable zones in the body and strengthen beams help absorb impact in the event of a collision. Other safety features include Electronic Stability Programme, Anti-lock Braking System etc.

Genesis Coupe is a splendid ride boasting power and the amazing feel of a rear wheel drive. The fabulously designed sports car is Hyundai’s first ever in UAE and is bound to make an impression. Hyundai has jumped into a new era of engineering and designing automobiles, posing serious threat to the Japanese monopoly in the Middle East.
