Honda Civic 2012 in newer shape promising better performance.

We have heard of Japan’s rich culture and the fact that their people are strong fighters’ not easy quitters. Honda, the Japanese automobile giant, faced serious challenges and obstacles in production as their country’s infrastructure was shaken to the core by the mighty force of 8.9 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami that followed.

In spite of the difficulties, Honda recently launched the 2012 version of Civic, their renowned compact sedan here in UAE. Not only has Honda delivered the Civic 2012 in time, it has also done a pretty good job with the sedan. UAE has always loved Honda’s Civic for its value for money, comfortable driving, sporty looks and innovative styling.

Honda Civic 2012 review

UAE has been a huge fan of Honda Civic from generation to generation and with a design makeover, better space and higher fuel efficiency, 2012 Civic is here to stay.

The exterior shape of the Civic remains more or less similar to last year’s model. Having adopted the contemporary ‘mono-form’ design, Honda has intelligently moved the front A pillars forward and rear C pillars backwards increasing interior volume by a whopping 104.7 liters. The improved space promises better passenger comfort.

Head and tail lamps are newly designed with sharper angles giving the Civic 2012 a fresh look. With a traditional Honda grille finished in chrome, sharper lines flowing through its body, the sedan incorporates a sporty yet sophisticated design. Civic sits on 16” alloy wheels (15” steel for LXI). Body colored side view mirrors with turn indicators, fog lamps, Chrome finished door handles and electric sunroof with tilt add to the styling.

Since the past few generations of Honda Civic, the most attractive and popular interior feature has been its two tier instrument panel with the digital multiplex speedometer. Having continued the popular design, Honda has only upgraded the 2012 Civics’ instrument panel with the addition of fully colored LCD screen placed on the right hand side of the speedometer, acting as Intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID). This displays a wide variety of information preset by the driver’s preference like audio information, trip calculator, clock etc. One can sync his/her phone with i-MID and there by make hands free calls via Bluetooth. You can also upload wallpapers as background on i-MID giving it a personal touch.

Another impressive feature in Civic is the Econ Mode. This is Honda’s new technology to help improve fuel efficiency by changing engine throttle characteristics and controlling AC compressor load. Honda clams that by driving on Econ mode not only do you save fuel but by following the ambient lights guide you also improve you’re driving habits.

Space as mentioned above has increased and so has the trunk capacity. With the 60/40 split rear seats you can accommodate a reasonable amount of cargo. The electric power steering wheel is smooth and covered in leather with well placed buttons for audio, HFT (Bluetooth Hands Free Telephone) and cruise control. Seats are comfortable and available in leather (optional).

The rear view camera projects on i-MID and is helpful for parking. Audio is supported by a radio and CD/MP3 player with USB and audio jack inputs. Civic in mounted by 6 stereo speakers providing decent music quality.
Technologies like Speed Sensitive Volume Control (SVC) which controls audio volume as per speed to compensate engine noise and
Drive by Wire (DBW) add to driving convenience.

Taking special care for safety Honda provides a list of safety features in all variants of Civic 2012 as standard. This car comes with dual front airbags for passenger and driver along with side and side curtain airbags. Civic has adopted ABS with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution technology for better handing with corners.

Honda’s exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) enhances energy management with frontal collision. Vehicle Stability Assistance considerably improves stability on road.

Under the hood of the 2012 Civic lays a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, 1.8L SOHC i-VTEC petrol engine mated with a 5-speed automatic FWD transmission. This engine delivers 139 HP at 6,500 RPM giving enough power to enjoy a smooth ride on the streets of UAE. The suspension system is adopted from Honda’s highly developed MacPherson struts and multi-link double wishbones.

Belonging to the compact sedan segment, Civic 2012 is an impressive package from Honda. Sporty design, powerful engine and innovative interior styling Civic 2012 is a good ride. However being slightly over priced with the top end VTi variant touching AED 89,999 in UAE, people may opt for its competitors.

Honda Civic retail price*:
LXi – AED 74,000.
EXi – AED 79,999. (Additional AED 5000 for sunroof and fog lamps)
VTi – AED 89,999.
