Nissan Tiida has been one of UAE best selling cars. Praised and appreciated as the most efficient and dependable vehicle in its class, Tiida is loved by many all over Dubai. Available as a sedan as well as in the form of a hatchback, this small yet spacious package from Nissan offers a range of variety in options and accessories. Nissan’s intelligent engineering and Tiida’s elegant design serves the purpose thousands of families all over the Middle East.

Traditionally built in Japan, the 2011 edition of Tiida was built in Mexico to cut down on retail price, same continues for 2012. This works out well for the targeted mid-level customers as they receive more features than before, at a better price. Nissan is replacing Tiida with the all time favorite Sunny, this is enough to describe the level of reliability this vehicle can deliver. Dubai is all excited with the images of the sharp and sporty 2013 Tiida (2012 model in American and many other markets) out on the net but for now we stick to the current 2012 model.

For the exteriors, Tiida 2012 is exactly similar to the previous model. The simple and sweet design projects a straightforward personality of the car. The combination of straight lines and bulging curves is adopted in all design elements of Tiida including the front and tail lamps, wheel arches, hood and trunk etc. The hatchback gets a sporty spoiler and the sedan flaunts its back with a set of well designed triangular tail lights. Tiida offers a variety of options like six body colors to choose from and a choice of four interior trims with 16” alloys or 15” steel wheels.

Tiida is powered by a 16 valve, 4-cylinder, DOHC 1.8L gasoline engine as standard on both hatchback and sedan variants. Transmission is available as a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The engine boasts power for this segment but lacks quick response. Overall, it drives smooth and handles amazingly well, Nissan’s expertise in engineering does justice to Tiida by providing optimum drive comfort.

On the interiors, the first thing you notice is the generous amount space. Quite appreciated for a car in this segment, it offers ample of head and leg room on both rows, particularly comfortable for tall passengers. A simple design makes for the plastic galore dashboard, a modern design finished with a touch of chrome or fake wood would look much classier. Under this poorly designed dashboard lies a 4 speaker audio system which supports CD, MP3 and AM/FM playback, it also includes a AUX input to support MP3 players. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and mounted with audio buttons. Tiida also offers keyless entry system for a hassle free driving experience. Other optional features include a sunroof, manual headlamp adjustment, a sporty rear spoiler for the hatchback etc. The cabin is extremely spacious and so is the luggage capacity in the trunk (0.4 cu. m. Sedan). Such space allows for great passenger comfort and with the cozy fabric seats you can enjoy the longest drives without getting tired.

On the safety side of things, Tiida could have done better. The base model only offers driver and front passenger airbags. Curtain airbags, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) are all available as options. A few of these features as standard on all variants would have been a good decision.

Nissan Tiida is an exceptionally reliable in terms of performance and spaciously comfortable on the interiors. It is an ideal option for families as it offers a decent amount of features at a reasonable price tag. For the segment it caters, Tiida beats competition in terms of space and power and with the glimpse of the 2013 model on the internet it is safe to say that Tiida will soon be called the king of subcompacts.
