The Volvo V40 made its GCC debut at an event in the UAE, slotting in as the entry-level model in the Swedish carmaker’s line-up after replacing the C30.
The 2013 V40 5-door hatchback comes in three flavours, namely a base model, an R-Design variant, and a Cross Country version. The R-Design adds a body kit, unique wheels and some sporty trim, while the Cross Country adds some faux skid plates and plastic body-cladding to go with a slightly-higher suspension and all-wheel-drive.
Two engines are on offer, the T4 getting a 180 hp 1.6-litre turbo 4-cylinder, and the T5 getting a 213 hp 2.0-litre turbo 4-cylinder.
Unconfirmed prices range from Dhs 120,000 to Dhs 170,000, a fair bit on the high side considering you can pick up a larger S60 sedan with the same engines for a base price of Dhs 99,000 in the UAE.
